This year, a ferry will cross the Volkerak twice a day between Brabant and Goeree-Overflakkee. From the upper deck, you’ll have a wonderful view over the water. This ferry service provides an excellent opportunity for walkers and cyclists to enjoy the picturesque and lovely villages surrounding the water of the Delta. You can visit Fort Sabina for instance, and be surprised by this 12-hectare green fortification from Napoleonic times. From the Fort, the ferry crosses the Volkerak to the harbour at Ooltgensplaat. From the jetty it’s just a few minutes’ walk to Fort Prins Frederik, or you can alight at the Galathese harbour on the Mariadijk, where there is also a fun outdoor play area. A cycle path has been created along the entire dike up to Oude-Tonge. But the Benedensas stop is also worthwhile: from there, you can explore the wonderful Dintelse Gorzen nature reserve, with its various walking routes and a WWII bunker that now serves as an information point.
