Deltapontjes 2020 [English]
There was a ferry service between Numansdorp and Willemstad as far back as 1898. Back then, the RTM had constructed a tramline from Rotterdam to Numansdorp. From Numansdorp, travellers could transfer over to the ferry services towards Willemstad and Zijpe (Zeeland). When the Deltaplan water defence was constructed, the various new dams and bridges rendered many ferry connections obsolete. The opening of the Haringvliet Bridge in 1964 signalled the end of the ferry service to Zijpe. The ferry service to Willemstad shut down in 1966. Today’s ferry is a former patrol boat that was once owned by the German Dept. of Waterways. The ‘Anna’ has capacity for 12 people and 12 bikes. Period of operation 1 May up until 27 September 2020. Sailing days May, June and September on Saturdays and Sundays. On Ascension Day 21 May, Friday 22 May and Whit Monday 1 June. In July and August from Wednesday through Sunday.
